Salvation Army Community & Family Services named 2018 Business Excellence Award recipient for Community Service Organization

The Salvation Army’s Community & Family Services primary focus is that its office, its programs and its outreach are always “client centered”. To us this means a welcoming atmosphere, appropriate assistance and meaningful programs.

We welcome our guests with a smile and kind words whether they are there to access services, or to make a donation because no matter who you are, you matter to us. The quality of the “product” we provide means that we are asking questions about who we serve, what they need and how we can best assist them as they move forward. The data we collect through our intake process is not intended to separate those who “need” from those who do not, it is intended to give us a clearer picture of whom it is we are serving, so that we can tailor our work and energy towards them. We encourage compassion and understanding at every step.

Community Involvement is what we do. We are here to support our community. We provide a refuge for those in need at Christmas and throughout the year. Our food bank operates two days a week providing both pantry visits by appointment and fridge access by drop in. We process applications for LEAP (Low Energy Assistance Program), OESP (Ontario Electricity Support Program), Canadian Tire Jumpstart, NPSFK (North Perth Sports for Kids) and Feline Friends. We run an annual backpack distribution which this year increased by 20%, and we sponsor kids for camp each year. Additionally this year we have hosted three MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) sessions, and are looking towards an Indigenous information experience in promotion of understanding next month. We have run two pilot cooking classes and hope to expand that portion of our programming next year while also adding a tax return option for North Perth residents. The programs we run exist solely to support our community.
